Assad's victory: Syrian president still in power after years of war
After eight years of conflict, with hundreds of thousands of people killed, plus millions of refugees, the Syrian civil war is drawing to a close. President Bashar al-Assad is still in power and the opposition remains scattered across various rebel and jihadist groups. Meanwhile, diplomatic relations are warming up between Damascus and some of its neighbours. Our France 2 colleagues were recently invited to Syria by the authorities, who are eager to showcase Assad as the real winner of the war.
