How to deal with China? EU divided over Belt and Road Initiative

France's president welcomed Xi Jinping for a state visit where the host decided to call for backup. After the easy part - the state banquet, the signing of mega-deals - Emmanuel Macron invited German Chancellor Angela Merkel, flanked by European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker. Having just four around the table meant getting on with issues like the Belt and Road Initiative. Are critics right to call it a debt trap? Is it any different than being beholden to US giants?
