FRANCE 24 meets Amr Waked, the Egyptian actor who dared to speak out
Issued on: Modified:
Amr Waked is an actor and filmmaker known to international audiences for his roles in Hollywood films "Syriana" and "Lucy". But most recently, he has come under the spotlight for a different reason: the 46-year-old Egyptian was expelled from the country's actors' union for committing what's being referred to as "high treason". This after he spoke out against President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi at a meeting with US members of Congress. He joins us on Middle East Matters to tell us more.
For the second part of this special programme, we head over to Le République in Paris, to meet with Maz Jobrani. The Iranian-American comic was in the capital as part of a European tour. He performed 11 shows over nine days. Born in Tehran, Maz moved to the United States with his family at the age of six. He studied political science, before realising his dream of becoming a comedian.
