Opting out: The American who chose to be homeless in Paris
Opting to live on an abandoned golf course; taking off to travel the world. Chris Ames is an American vagabond who after years of married life with a regular job and two kids decided to do things differently. His book "An American (Homeless) in Paris" takes us through a year in his life, living on the edges of Paris and commuting to his job as an English teacher in the city.
Living outside brings you closer to nature, he tells us, "now it is spring and you would not believe the energy coming from the earth," but it is a tough existence. Ames was fortunate to have a job and a bank account but now unemployed, he says he can feel the distance between his world and the conventional one widening.
