'My country sells weapons': Reporting on France's role in the war in Yemen
France is the world's third-largest arms exporter. Recent reports show that French-made weapons have been used in Yemen, a country where tens of thousands of civilians have been killed. Journalist Anne Poiret spent 18 months investigating the French weapons industry for her book "My country sells weapons" (Mon pays vend des armes). The book paints a picture of French governments, past and present, that lie to citizens about the extent of the arms industry and who those weapons are sold to.
Poiret has also done extensive reporting in war-torn countries where French weapons are said to have been used. She says people there ask her "why is France on the one hand selling so many weapons and on the other speaking of human rights? France is supposed to be the country of human rights."
