Saving our oceans: The battle against plastic pollution
It's estimated that 8 to 12 million tonnes of plastic are ending up in our oceans every single year. Around half of that plastic is used just once before being dumped, and it's virtually indestructible. This week UNESCO is hosting a conference on the health of our oceans, one of the subjects inevitably being the amount of plastic found in them. We spoke to Julia Schnetzer who is Ocean Plastics Lab campaign manager with the German Marine Research Consortium.
