Quartararo dominates practice ahead of Catalan Grand Prix

Madrid (AFP) –

France's Fabio Quartararo eased concerns about his fitness ahead of the Catalan Grand Prix by posting the best time from the opening two rounds of free practice on Friday.

Yamaha SRT rider Quartararo, who was feeling discomfort in his right forearm earlier this month, finished in 1min 40.790sec, 0.281sec faster than Italian Andrea Dovizioso and 0.302sec in front of Japan's Takaaki Nakagami.

Spain's Marc Marquez, who leads the world championship heading into his home race on Sunday, provisionally finished ninth, 0.613sec behind Quartararo.

In Moto2, Switzerland's Tom Luthi registered the fastest time, ahead of Spanish pair Alex Marquez and Jorge Navarro, while the leader of the riders' classification, Italy's Lorenzo Baldassarri, came in ninth.

In Moto3, the best time belonged to Spain's Alonso Lopez. He pipped compatriot and overall leader Aron Canet, who missed out on the top 14, as well as second-placed Lorenzo Dalla Porta of Italy.
