Top choices? Controversy over EU 'top jobs'
Issued on:
It's possibly the most important job within the European Union, and a woman has been put forward for the role for the first time. Ursula von der Leyen has been nominated to swap the German defence ministry for the president's office at the European Commission. Some have hailed this "top job" pick as a victory for equality, but others are much less happy – including many of the members of the European Parliament, who will be voting on July 16 on whether to confirm Von der Leyen for the job.
Some say a rebellion could be on the cards – we debate whether MEPs will indeed back her in Tuesday's secret vote.
