Japan increases sales tax despite economic worries

Japan has increased the sales tax on most goods from 8 percent to 10 percent, despite concerns that it might hurt the world's third-largest economy. The hike will be used to repay more of Japan's debt mountain, and improve services for children and the elderly. Also today, Credit Suisse's chief operating officer resigns over a spying scandal.
