ICRC President Peter Maurer: “We also see those whose lives have been preserved, who have been assisted, who have been protected.”
“It can be discouraging to see a list of the projects where we’re trying to save lives, but we also see the lives of those preserved thanks to our humanitarian assistance”. That’s what keep the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross going as his organisation tackles hundreds of issues, from war, to disease, to natural disasters to climate change around the world. This week he’s speaking at the Paris Peace Forum to try to ensure states and regional powers respect international humanitarian law.
