China switches on superfast 5G network
Issued on:
China has rolled out 5G across 50 cities. It’s not the first country to install the technology, but it's the first to make it available on such a large scale. The launch happened two months ahead of schedule, as China powers ahead in the race to 5G – a race that earlier in the year, Donald Trump said America would win. This comes amid the ongoing US-China trade war, where 5G technology is a key battleground. The US has boycotted Chinese 5G tech provider Huawei, saying it poses a security risk, and is urging other countries to follow suit.
In other tech news, emotion recognition technology becomes a new development to watch out for, and Apple launches its video streaming site, Apple TV+, to compete with brands such as Netflix and Amazon.
