Brazil swings far-right: Decisive lead for Bolsonaro ahead of presidential run-off
Issued on: Modified:
Brazil's answer to Donald Trump came awfully close to scoring a first-round knockout. The far-right's Jair Bolsonaro garnered 46% in Sunday's presidential vote. A former military officer, he's prone to waxing lyrical about the days of the dictatorship and to tirades against women, sexual minorities and Afro-Brazilians. Beyond the corruption scandals that have tainted the entire political class, why has the Workers Party - which ruled Brazil for 13 of the past 15 years - fallen out of favour?
