Trump's biggest fan? Bolsonaro breaks with Brazil's non-aligned past
Issued on: Modified:
Brazil is no longer anti-US. The words of Jair Bolsonaro, welcomed to the White House for his first bilateral trip abroad as president. Donald Trump reciprocated, saying Brazil and the US have never been closer. Gone are the days when the Latin American powerhouse prided itself on its non-aligned credentials on the world stage.
Bolsonaro clearly embraces this US leader and his policies, to the point where he even began his stay in Washington with a dinner in the company of Trump's former campaign manager, alt-right icon Steve Bannon.
Bolsonaro is also due to visit Israel before next month's elections there. Is the so-called anti-globalism alliance for real?
