Rebel with a cause: Mélissa Laveaux revisits Haitian resistance songs

Resisting oppression through song… Haiti’s rebel music had hidden meaning; beyond the catchy melodies, the lyrics called on the country’s people to rise up during the US occupation from 1915 to 1934. Canadian-Haitian singer-songwriter Mélissa Laveaux brings these politically-charged tunes back to life for her latest project "Radyo Siwèl". The multilingual musician, who blurs the lines between blues, folk and Creole sounds, drops by the studio for a chat and also treats us to a live performance.
