Central Africa 'not a playground' for world powers, says French FM

The woes plaguing the Central African Republic “must not be exploited to gain a foothold on the continent and pursue concealed ambitions”, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian told FRANCE 24 in a thinly veiled attack on Russian involvement in the restive African nation.
Le Drian signed aid deals worth €24 million and pledged to deliver French weapons to CAR’s beleaguered security forces during a visit to the former French colony on Friday. “The country’s security and development is the only subject that should interest those who want to be involved in the Central African Republic,” he said in a wide-ranging interview from the capital, Bangui. The French minister also touched on the recent presidential election in Cameroon and the terror threat facing Burkina Faso.
