Paris Fashion Stories, Episode 7: English rebels
Ready-to-wear, autumn-winter 2019/2020. In this edition we focus on two British designers, Stella McCartney and Vivienne Westwood.
Stella McCartney and Vivienne Westwood are both extraordinary women. Westwood revolutionised fashion in the 1960s and 70s. In conjunction with her accomplice Malcolm McLaren she raised the punk movement to an art form. She embraced rebellion before all else.
The slogan back then was "Punk will never die", and Westwood has made sure it hasn’t. These days the punk designer fights to save the planet’s oceans. Her partner and fellow activist Andreas Kronthaler, 25 years her junior, is now the chief designer for her label.
Fellow activist-designer Stella McCartney – daughter of Paul – is vegan. From the very beginning of her fashion career in 2001 she’s fought to find alternatives to leather and feathers – she wants sustainable, ethical fashion to enter the mainstream.
