France 24 has decided not to publish the image of an injured Syrian boy called Omran who was caught up in Russian airstrikes in Aleppo. It has illicited a wave of compassion from around the world but to what extent are photos like this an example of voyeurism more than an instigator of compassion? Do they really change anything after an initial wave of emotional reaction?
