The Observers Direct

Mayotte's youth challenge

1 min

France 24 journalists meet eyewitnesses (Observers) to discuss memorable events they have experienced. The programme brings to the airways the unique journalistic online project ''The Observers''.

In Mayotte, a French department in the Indian Ocean, more than half of the population is under 18. Kids and teens are growing up in difficult conditions: many of them live in shantytowns, don't go to school or get caught up in violence between rival crews. Our Observers in Mayotte share their concerns for the future of the island's youth.
