In pictures: Europeans seek to beat the heat as continent sizzles

As France, Spain, Italy, Britain and parts of central Europe weathered a record heatwave this week, Europeans looking to stay cool had to get creative. Meteorologists blamed the unusually early summer heat on a scorching blast of hot air from northern Africa, with France recording its hottest temperature ever of 45.9 degrees Celsius Friday. Relief is in sight starting Sunday.
