This week on The Observers, we took a closer look at a landfill outside the capital of Kuwait, where 50 million old tyres have been dumped. Frequent fires at the site emit toxic "carbon black" into the air, harmful to both humans and the environment. We spoke to Fatma Al Zalzalah, a 24-year-old engineer from Kuwait, who launched an environmental initiative called “Eco Star” in 2019, to help promote better recycling of waste.

Then, a Kenyan TikToker has gone viral sharing her experiences working as a domestic worker in Saudi Arabia. She uses humour and quick edits to explain the challenges, insults and loneliness she experiences day to day. She hopes her videos will bring comfort to other domestic workers as well as raise awareness of their plight.
