Somaliland votes for a new president Monday amid a tight contest. The breakaway territory declared independence from Somalia after the overthrow of military dictator General Siad Barre in 1991 following a 10-year civil war that killed more than 60,000 people. It has been striving to attain international recognition ever since, without success. Instead, it belongs to UNPO - the Unrepresented Nations & Peoples Organization.
