Alexandre Buccianti, RFI’s correspondent in Cairo, explains that according to the sentence, former Islamist President Mohammed Morsi insulted the judge and, along with 18 others, was found guilty of contempt of justice by giving interviews saying that they did not recognise the court as being a legal court. Morsi can appeal the sentence. If he loses the case on appeal, he can then go to the Supreme Court to make a second appeal. A total of five cases have been brought against Morsi in recent years.
