Strikers on French island of Mayotte demand action against juvenile juvenile delinquency

The French overseas region or "departement" of Mayotte, in the Indian Ocean, is in the grips of a month-long general strike. With no agreement between the authorities and the Unions in sight, barricades are in place and there is often violence at night - mostly coming from disaffected young people. Juvenile delinquency has plagued the island for years. The strikers are demanding tougher action against youth violence from the local government.
