Video: Malian, French soldiers try to regain local trust
Issued on: Modified:
Five years after the French Army intervened to stop an Islamist insurgency in Mali, the counter-insurgency operation continues with the aim of preventing armed Islamist extremist groups from regaining territory. But in large swathes of the northern and eastern parts of the West African country, state institutions and the Malian Armed Forces are still absent. As part of France's military operation known as Barkhane, French and Malian soldiers are working together to collect intelligence and regain the population's trust.
