The 71st Cannes film festival has taken something of a pro-women attitude to screenings and events this year, with a number events planned to highlight female filmmakers and to promote gender parity in the industry. Women may still be fighting for their place in the sector today but just how hard was it 100 years ago, at the birth of cinema? Our reporters have been speaking to Pamela B. Green, the filmmaker behind documentary “Be Natural”, which is screening in the “Cannes Classics” section and which tells the story of Alice Guy-Blaché.
