Record number of women running for office in US midterm elections
Date created : Latest update :
Traditionally, the party in power gets a wake-up call during the US midterm congressional elections following a presidential election. This year is expected to follow that pattern. The warning signs for the Republican Party include the record number of women who may end up serving in the next Congress. There are more than 500 female candidates for these upcoming midterm elections--about 24 per cent of the overall number of candidates. This year, the divisive Trump presidency has inspired some women to go beyond the Women's Marches and try and propel themselves into Congress.
