Violence against women and girls remains widespread

November 25 is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, a worldwide event organized by the United Nations. This year's theme is "Orange the World: #HearMeToo". It will kick off 16 days of global activism against gender violence. Violence against women and girls remains alarmingly common -- World Bank data shows that women aged 15-44 are more at risk from rape and domestic violence than from cancer, car accidents, war and malaria. Anca Ulea crunches some of the numbers.
