Paris cleans up in wake of fresh Yellow Vest unrest

A massive clean up effort was underway in Paris on Sunday in the wake of fresh unrest Saturday. France saw its fourth consecutive weekend of 'Yellow Vest' protests, with the French capital again bearing the brunt of the property damage, vandalism and looting. Authorities said 136,000 people had taken part in the protests across France on Saturday, including 10,000 in Paris. More than 1,709 people were arrested, including 1,000 in the capital. More than 100 remained in custody on Sunday. French President Emmanuel Macron is due to address the nation on the enduring crisis on Monday evening after meeting with representatives of trade unions, employers’ organisations and associations of local elected officials, as well as Senate president Gérard Larcher and National Assembly president Richard Ferrand, earlier on Monday.
