Food aid stolen in 'Houthi-controlled areas' as Yemen starves

Food aid meant for starving Yemenis is being stolen and sold in some areas controlled by the Houthi movement, the UN World Food Programme (WFP) says, and has threatened to suspend some of its shipments unless the theft stops. “There are certain Houthi elements that don’t care about the people. They are literally diverting aid and we are demanding it be stopped because innocent people are the victims here,” WFP Executive Director David Beasley said. “At a time when children are dying in Yemen because they haven’t enough food to eat, that is an outrage. This criminal behaviour must stop immediately.”
