Troubled relations: Bouteflika’s 20-year quest for an apology from France

During Bouteflika's 20 years in office the relationship between Algeria and its former colonial master saw several ups and downs. Since Nicolas Sarkozy in 2007, each French president has taken a step further in recognising France's actions in Algeria - which Emmanuel Macron went so far as to declare a "crime against humanity".
