Indian police fired blanks into crowds today as thousands ignored a curfew protesting against a controversial new method of citizenship that fast-tracks citizenship applications for refugees persecuted in three neighbouring countries, but only for non-Muslims. Many Islamic groups, the opposition, and human rights organisations claim this is part of Prime Minister Modi's Hindu nationalist agenda to marginalise India's 200 million Muslims, something he denies.
