Chile has recorded 368 deaths due to Covid-19, a relatively low figure compared to other countries in the region. But the infection rate has been soaring in recent days, prompting the government to declare a lockdown in the capital Santiago starting today, where the health care system is close to full capacity, according to the unions. Authorities expect the country to reach its peak by the end of May or early June.
