How efficient against coronavirus are hand sanitizer gels compared to soap?

Sales of face masks and hand sanitizer gels have soared around the World as the fight against the coronavirus pandemic continues. FRANCE 24’s health editor Julia Sieger tries to answer the question of whether these gels are efficient, especially compared to traditional soap and water. “First, to be efficient against Covid-19, the concentration of alcohol in a gel needs to reach at least 60%”, Sieger says, adding that “hand sanitizer is less efficient as it doesn’t clean small dirt particles”.
