TikTok and WeChat banned as India clamps down on Chinese apps
India's government has banned 59 Chinese mobile apps on national security grounds, accusing them of endangering Indian sovereignty, defense and security, along with secretly transmitting user data to foreign servers. On its official Twitter page, TikTok's India chief said the firm complies with all data privacy and security requirements under Indian Law, denying that it shares any user data with the Chinese government. The ban also includes popular China based messaging app WeChat, social media network Weibo, and a host of Chinese e-commerce platforms. It comes as relations between the two nuclear-armed neighbours are rapidly deteriorating.
