French PM Edouard Philippe and cabinet resign, government reshuffle ‘in the next hours’

French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe resigned this Friday, automatically triggering the resignation of the entire cabinet. Philippe will now preside over affairs of state until a new government is nominated. Rumours of his departure had been circulating for weeks and have grown stronger after Philippe won once again a seat as mayor of Le Havre. “French Presidents don’t like to be outshone by their PMs”, FRANCE 24’s International affairs editor Armen Georgian says.
