Russia steps up opposition crackdown ahead of rally for Alexei Navalny liberation

The Russian government has been stepping up its crackdown on opposition members, ahead of a major rally planned for Saturday. Opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been detained for the past 5 days, with his supporters planning large protests in cities across Russia to demand his release. In an attempt to quash the movement, several Navalny associates have been arrested in the past few days, including his spokeswoman, as FRANCE 24’s Moscow correspondent Theo Merz reports.
