EU holds off new sanctions against Russia over arrests during protests demanding Navalny liberation

In a summit, European Union countries talked about sanctions against Russian individuals responsible for violence during anti-government protests and for the arrest of opposition leader Alexei Navalny. As of now, the EU has nevertheless decided not to impose new sanctions on Russia. This weekend, anti-government demonstrations that lead to 3,300 detentions led up to clashes between police and protesters who demanded Navalny’s liberation.
