Jesús Ángel García, the Spanish race walker, is to retire after today becoming the first person to compete in a track and field event at eight Olympics.The 51-year-old from Madrid, who has taken part in every Games since Barcelona 1992, brought the curtain down on his career by finishing 35th in the men’s 50km race walk, which was moved to Sapporo, some 700 miles north of Tokyo, to take advantage of lower temperatures and humidity.
