Issued on:
Mexicans performed dances and rituals in Mexico City on Thursday, a day before the 500th anniversary of the fall of the Aztec capital, Tenochtitlan, to honour the Aztec empire’s resistance against Spanish forces. Founded in 1325, Tenochtitlan was famous for its elaborate Aztec temples and advanced canal system. The Aztec capital was conquered by Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes in 1521.
