Analysis: China, Russia keep embassies open in Afghanistan

China is ready to deepen "friendly and cooperative" relations with Afghanistan, a government spokeswoman said Monday (August 16, 2021), after the Taliban seized control of the country. China says its embassy remains open in Kabul and expressed a willingness to support its reconstruction. Russia also said it did not plan to evacuate its embassy in Kabul.
