France gets first tranche of EU Covid-19 recovery funds

France said Tuesday it had received its first tranche of funds amounting to 5.1 billion euros from the European Union's multi-billion-euro coronavirus fund. EU member states last month formally approved recovery plans submitted by 12 countries -- including France, Italy and Spain -- paving the way for the first instalments to be paid.
